if you buy this product, don't count on the maker (broderbund) for support. their website seems to be specifically designed to be a series of dead-ends, and their support hours (and response delays) reveal a company that's interested in selling once, but not getting return customers. no wonder they're not the giant they once were.
I bought this for a friend who dosen't remember how to type. He is loving it and we use it here in our offices to improve customer service typing skills.
However, the biggest thing I would change about it is the repetitious Elevator "Light Jazz" piano music that plays on a loop. I have only been using this product for a few weeks, and I already see results in my typing. I know the board a lot better, and my speed is increasing. I have either turned the sound off, or just ignore it now, but it is annoying. The next edition should skip the music entirely.
UPDATE (06/23/09): I returned this software. This software does not have the best design and the presentaion is fairly outdated but the approach to learning is sound. There really is no "BUG".
0 stars.OLD REVIEW: I am a beginner adult typist desiring to learn keyboarding using a straight forward, step-by-step approach. Select START to review the lesson. The "bug" eventually outsmarted me.
Simply select TAKE A LESSON, then select LESSON HISTORY, next select any LESSON (drill, practice, quiz or game) for any letter or lesson you wish to review. This software does it for me. After reading the reviews regarding the "BUG", I was hesitant but decided to purchase the product based on the positive reviews and the fact that the Mavis Beacon method has been around a very, very long time.
After completing the review you must select BACK to return to LESSON HISTORY to select the same lesson again or a new one. Hope this helps.
If you miss even a few, it won't let you go on. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED with this product. It gives you one lesson and then 3 tests on letters you don't know. It sends you back to relearn the letters you had previously covered. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
